Supreme is known for their unique, non-traditional beauties like Meghan Collison and Alana Zimmer. Marilyn boasts the freckled Vogue favorite Caroline Trentini, and IMG is where the gamine queens Lily Donaldson and Gemma Ward reside.
All of them are what the French would call jolie laide, which literally translates into “pretty ugly.” Quirky beauties who’s imperfections enhance their appearance and makes them more interesting to look at (think Lara Stone and the gap in between her teeth).
However, the models that belong to the Ugly agency, well…uh…let’s just say they’ve got the ugly down for sure.
The Ugly agency specializes in providing advertisers with faces that are not traditionally beautiful to front their campaigns. Typically, if you are a budding model looking for a top agency to call home, you must be at least 5′9, no bigger than a size 2, and no older than 19.
If you’re looking to join the ugly agency, though, your age can range from 18-100 years, sizes 6-3o are fine, and as long as you are between 4′1 and 7′6 consider yourself signed.
With that said, who would be proud to tell someone they belong to the Ugly agency? Although the majority of the models signed to the agency look very commercial and decent, and have probably appeared in tons of Campbell soup and Levis ads, I think I would have to pass on this opportunity.
Would you send your polaroids in?
