“I am a visual artist. In fact, the first thing I do when I start a new album is to get the look together. I keep hundreds of tear sheets from magazines, make them into big mood boards, then get into the character. I call it method singing.

I don’t have a lot of patience when it comes to shopping. I’m more like: “Bring me lots of options.” Trends don’t particularly interest me, either, but I have put a lot of effort into planning my new wardrobe. I have loads of wig-heads for hats, and a shoe wall filled from floor to ceiling. It even has a ladder on wheels, a bit like in an old library, so I can scoot along and get what I want quickly.”

As much as I’m annoyed with major fashion designers suing fast fashion company’s because they keep ripping off their designs, I’m even more agitated with the working conditions people in foreign countries are placed in to make those $30 Marc by Marc knock-off dresses.

In this new four-part series from the BBC called Blood, Sweat, and T-shirts, six young fashion lovers”swap shopping for the factories and backstreet workshops of India to make clothes for the British High Street.”

In short, the cute fashionistas on a budget are left debating whether or not their weekly trekks to Topshop are really worth it after all. Even if they can snag spring ‘08 Miu Miu look-a-likes for a bargain.

Watch, learn, and discuss.

The Morning Dish: Dresses are soooo in!

Since our economy is kind of lagging, no one seems to be coughing up cash like they use to for over-priced must-have handbags. Go figure? Now the buyers are trying to push “it” shoes and watches. But what’s even crazier than that is the fact that so many people are repudiating and denouncing “the dress” left and right. I say bulls***, too. [The Fashion Bomb]

Much like her big sister, Ashlee Simpson will be using reality TV to promote her career i.e., wetseal line, new album, engagement to Pete Wentz, faux pregnancy… And who said Pete and her wouldn’t last? [Just Jared]

Don’t call it a comeback, but Nina Garcia might be setting up shop at Heart’s lady mag Harper’s Bazaar. [Fashionista]

While her zombie stare is still extremely terrifying, Karlie Kloss looks super cool in the new issue of Numero. Elite, I’m made for you. [Pink Rock Candy]

You don’t have to love him. You don’t even have to like him. But you will respect him. You know why? Cuz he’s a boss! [Models]

See, I told you all I was taking this thing new Chic and Untroubled initiative seriously.

Another day. And another cool girl’s brand to discuss.

Yesterday, the spring/summer Dimepiece lookbook arrived in my mailbox. The line is full of whimsical leggings with bold letters and maps on them and a couple of graphic tees worth hiding from your friends.

The ladies say there line was inspired by their laid back Los Angeles
lifestyle. Can this explain why their model looks so uncomfortable? Just kidding.

If you’re interested, everything is going quick at Cultist Shop and on the brand’s own site, DimePiece.

And the countdown is on.

In five short days, actors, athletes, supermodels, editors, bloggers, and Patrick McMullen darlings will be converging on the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the annual Costume Gala. The theme? “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy.”

What I know:

1.If anybody wants to be featured in Ms. Wintour’s magazine, they better dress up: “Anna Wintour thinks you’d better go large with the “superhero” theme of next Monday’s Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala if you want to see yourself in Vogue. “People tend to play it safe, but Anna likes anyone who makes an effort,” says an insider. “Bolder looks really make the party, and they make it into the magazine.”

2. Francisco Costa of Calvin Klein is taking Liv Tyler, Fergir, and Rachel Bilson to the party as his dates. Random? Just a little bit.

3. Anybody who shows up in those gold metallic Balenciaga leggings or wears anything from Dolce & Gabbana’s fall ‘07 collection has my vote for best dressed.

Meanwhile, Style.com just added a preview of what some of the guests may be wearing to the swanky event. Stam, the latex dress was meant for you!
