“Have you ever understood the futility of a life spent asking “Does my bum look big in this?” The pointlessness of a life lived without a dab of daring panache? Glamour, ladies, is the birthright of every woman. It is that mysterious, shimmering, you-know-it-when- you-see-it quality that surrounds those who stand out from the crowd.” — Simon Doonan, From London Times.

On Saturday, I made a trek to Old Navy with my friend who was equally excited about purchasing flip flops that were going for a measly $1.
Apparently, everybody else in my small college town got the memo about our a little weekend shopping expedition because when we arrived there were absolutely no sandals left. None.
Disappointed, we got a pretzel and call it a day. I temporarily found comfort in Bravo TV’s reality show, Shear Genius. Basically, it’s Project Runway for hair stylists.
For the contestants first challenge this season, they had to make their models look like popular cartoon characters. The most creative hair styles sought Marge Simpson as their inspiration. While this brave women looks more like the bride of Frankenstein with a dye job than Homer’s wife, I love the effort put forth by the stylist.
Meanwhile, Project Runway returns to Bravo in two weeks and will air right after Shear Genius every Wednesday night. Can.not.wait.

After skimming Anya Hindmarch’s online store of shimmery metallic hobos and matching Upper East Side flats, you’ve probably stumbled upon the feature that allows one to place a photograph on a Hindmarch handbag (presumably of a loved one and/or cherished pet).
While these totes are undoubtedly cheesy, their photo technology is being used by a sneaker giant who might make you reconsider, if only for a second.
For nine European countries only, Nike will allow customers who reside in those chosen nations to place photographs from their cell phones onto their sneakers.
Known as Nike PhotoID, the new design feature allows the shoe company to create a custom sneaker that compliments the digital image you sent them via text message. Once again, this only for my friends on the other side of the pond.
Meanwhile, those stateside can customize the Nike “Be True” Hi-top and low Dunk sneaker right now on Nike ID, which allows for much more free-spirited creativity with a wider range of options to play with. Choose your color combinations wisely!
No, this is neither a promotional item for Joss Stone’s most recent album or a slow jams radio station.
The mind, body, and soul necklace is actual the latest selection from Steven Shein’s empire of lovable plastic jewerly. The bright-colored piece mounts the ever-popular life mantra on a silver necklace in the official primary colors accented with stars.
Steven’s new Text 2.0 piece can be found at Pixie Market for $67.
Meanwhile, another round of funky Shein necklaces with ironic name plates as well as wood bracelets, and earrings can be found at 80s purple awaiting someone to call them their own.

Firstly, I’m not a music reviewer. I know, I know, never tell the people what you’re not good at, but I’ve never been that girl. You know, the one who wears Uggs in July; swears by the teachings of Cosmopolitan ….30, 5′0, and legitimately pissed when she doesn’t make the cut for America’s Next Top Model.
So, there. This is my confession, my fault. Plus, I would never want to be subjected to something like this, which is never a good. In short, my future ramblings on music will always be sweet, succinct and straight to the point.
I’ve had Private Affair by The Virgins on repeat all weekend and thought I might share my new summer jam and its subsequent music video. Taking a cue from Snoop’s Sexual Seduction, this video gets the vintage treatment, but 80s workout gear replaces pimp suits and glorious perms. Love it.

Walking around in sky-high platforms, halter tops, caked on foundation, and gold lamé hot pants was admirable, if not fashionable, in the 80s.
But exuding style donning a similar throwback look that includes over-sized vintage sunglasses, a liquid gold iridescent bodysuit, and too much Urban Decay glitter eye shadow in today’s clubs — all of which would have looked great decades ago — well, that’s such a fine line.
But all is not lost for those poor young souls waxing lyrical about late 80s power dressing, Dynasty, and shoulder pads.
American Apparel will soon be adding a lamé school bag to its hallowed online store. The cheery bag comes in metallic silver a la aluminum foil and icy purple.
For students, the design is much more aesthetically pleasing than anything JanSport could whip up. And for those who are getting tired of explaining your jubilant Kidrobot tote, satchel, etc. to your adult co-workers, this bag probably won’t make your situation any better.
But it’s summer, the temperatures are pretty ridiculous right now, and since you’ll probably be spending the majority of these months outside walking around, this is the coolest way to pack around magazines and bottled water. Plus, if anyone is bold enough to try and steal your backpack, the heat that the bag could potentially trap due to the material it’s made out of will surely hurt their hand, which is always a pleasant thought.
