Chic and Untroubled

Topshop takes on Lanvin

When Topshop isn’t making Luella Bartley “inspired” tops and clutches, they love to make clothing that looks as if were ripped straight off of a runway in Paris. Star motifs a la Chanel and YSL have made several appearances on the mega retailer’s online store. But this gray ruffled dress gets its inspiration from Lanvin’s spring ‘08 collection.

Just like the original, this short number isn’t that flattering. Even if you find a really adorable belt to cinch your waist, the number still wouldn’t give you any type of shape. I love you Topshop, but stop trying to be Forever 21. You’re cool enough. Trust me.

Alexander Wang’s beanies revisited

Question: Of all of things that stood out in your mind from Alexander Wang’s fall show, were fuzzy beanies at the top of your list?

Yes. I, too, remember Abbey Lee and Rachel Clark marching down the runway in some sort of fitted knit hat with M.I.A. blaring in the background, but I didn’t think they looked like this; sort of corny and Kangol-esque looking.

Shopbop just added a ton of new Alexander Wang pieces to its site and all of them are drool worthy except for this. It stuck out to me like a sore thumb.

Nope, I’m not crazy. Style.com doesn’t feature any angora beanies in its Alexander Wang look book. So, I’m guessing there was a misunderstanding at the production factory? Or maybe his people realized no one was going to pay $150 for a cotton one and decided to use a more expensive fabric to qualify their heftier price tag? Oh, I don’t know.

But if anyone is looking into buying Wang this fall, I would go for the heather gray felt pea coat. It’s super cute and it’ll sufficiently keep you warm this winter, which is great when you’ll be rocking those ripped pantyhose along with it.

A case of mistaken identity

About a couple of months ago, the blogosphere went kind of bananas for a t-shirt that read: “Makeup not war”

And rightfully so. It was cool, witty, and ironic yet Urban Outfitters had nothing to do with its creation. But as anyone who follows streetwear can tell you, the Trash & Luxury t-shirt looked eerily similar to that of Dime Piece’s protest number.

Since the styles were different, though, I chalked this up to a mere coincidence. However, Trash & Luxury has struck again and more boldly. On the left, Mama’s Rene G. — named after the fashion illustrator who created the original piece of work. On the right, Trash & Luxury’s version with “Vanity is fair” scribbled along the bottom. Yeah.

Obviously, no one can claim rights to the illustration since it belongs to neither, but Gabriella definitely went at this first. And the Trash & Luxury replica probably wouldn’t have existed if she didn’t.

Do you want a bit of Peaches?

We’ve all placed bids on Ebay for what we thought was some ridiculously amazing high fashion article of clothing only to find out when the creptic package came that it was probably purchased from Forever21 and couldn’t be anymore fake.

Yeah, it sucks. Yeah, it can make someone temporarily bitter. And yes, it could cause someone to seriously consider buying from Peaches Geldof the next time they want to make a safe sartorial purchase.

The British socialite is hawking a couple of pieces from her wardrobe on the auction site. Apparently, she is moving to a new flat with a couple of buddies and has way too many clothes to take to her new digs. Bummer, for sure.

She says a “percentage of the proceeds will go to charity” but I think the money will probably just go to buying more new clothes.

The items in Peaches’ stores are pretty much all from Topshop or vintage. She has styled each photo of the garment she is trying to sell with accessories, intense stares, and model poses. Basically, it resembles a kind of bootleg look book. Charming but cheesy.

Meanwhile, those itching for a Topshop fix should check out the stores mega sale. It has everything you wish you would have bought a few months ago. Happy shopping.

Chanel’s fall/winter ‘08 haute couture show. Amazing. Enjoy.

Stressed and beaten

Earlier this year, the boys behind Justice announced they would be collaborating with French street brand Surface 2 Air Paris on a mini capsule collection.

Cool Hunter wrangled up a few images from the line, which wasn’t hard considering it only consists of four items: leather jackets and skinny jeans.

The attire of champions, I say.

Immaculately distressed and beaten up to perfection, the jackets look like they’ve each been worn by a few die-hard party goers with a bad habit of smoking and staying out too long and too much.

They have a “super-skinny” silhouette — like everything else any fashionable Frenchmen would — and pretty much resemble the exact same jackets the electric duo have permanently glued to their thin framed bodies at all times.

Cool, right? The Jackets and jeans are available online right now and I imagine there are many Ed Banger loyalists losing their mind right now.

Those who’ve already succumbed to thrift store leather jackets and really tight jeans should look no further than iTunes for their summer electro fix. Good music is a must in the summer, ya know. Especially when you’re taking calculus. Ugh…
